Visual storytelling at The New York Times
Kerri is known for her work launching and curating the @nytimes Instagram feed, which she grew to nearly 5 million followers. In three years, she carved out new forms of visual storytelling that pushed the boundaries for the organization. Among the highlights:
Launched @nytimes and @nytarchives and oversaw the newsroom’s Instagram strategy, as well as visual coverage of major news events on Facebook and Twitter
Experimented with off-platform storytelling: Afghanistan’s peace marchers, the Citadel’s first female Top Cadet, the “Machu Picchu of the North” in Peru, caring for a son with cancer and a group of volunteers providing dignified burials in Haiti.
Collaborated on visual projects highlighting UGC and bringing poetry to the news pages
Trained journalists around the world on visual storytelling for social media
In her nine years with The Times, where she started as the first producer for the photography blog LENS, Kerri’s work also spanned photo editing, writing, editing and video. She worked as a photo editor in both New York and Hong Kong, and produced hundreds of blog posts — as well as UGC, social and video (about dogs) — for LENS.
